Immersive Technologies for Construction
OgdenXR Leads Hands-On Workshop for Contractors
On April 10, OgdenXR hosted an engaging and educational workshop titled “Immersive Technologies: Future Tools for Contractors”, in collaboration with the Suazo Business Center.
What we did??
The event brought together contractors from the construction sector interested in exploring how Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality can transform their processes, enhance decision-making, and provide innovative client experiences.
What are Immersive Technologies?
Immersive technologies are advanced digital tools that allow users to experience three-dimensional environments in a deeply engaging way—either by blending the physical world with virtual elements or by fully immersing users in a digital space. These tools are revolutionizing many industries, including construction.
During the workshop, participants learned that immersive technologies are not limited to gaming or entertainment. In fact, they have real-world applications for architects, engineers, and especially contractors.
The main categories introduced were:
-
Virtual Reality (VR): Transports the user into a 100% digital environment. Ideal for previewing construction projects, virtually touring a space before it’s built, or simulating how a finished structure will function.
-
Augmented Reality (AR): Overlays digital information (such as blueprints or structural elements) on the physical world. For example, when pointing a tablet at a wall, contractors can see where pipes or wiring would go.
-
Mixed Reality (MR): Combines VR and AR, allowing digital elements to appear in the real world and be interacted with. This opens powerful opportunities for simulation, design reviews, and workforce training.
Immersive technologies offer a new way to communicate, plan, and execute projects. What once required complex technical plans and lengthy explanations can now be shown in a clear, engaging way—even for clients without technical backgrounds.
Key Benefits for Contractors
Throughout the session, multiple benefits of immersive technologies for contractors were presented, showing that these tools are not science fiction—they are practical, accessible, and highly impactful.
1. Project Visualization Before Construction
One of the most powerful benefits is the ability to showcase a project before a single brick is laid. With 3D immersive models, clients can:
-
Virtually walk through homes or buildings
-
Understand space layouts and flow
-
Preview design finishes and colors
-
Suggest changes early in the process
This enhances client satisfaction and accelerates decision-making.
2. Improved Communication and Fewer Errors
Immersive tools also strengthen team coordination and client communication, especially when reviewing changes in real-time. By visually aligning all stakeholders, misunderstandings and costly mistakes are reduced.
Additionally, teams can identify structural issues or design conflicts before construction begins, thanks to interactive 3D models—saving both time and money.
3. Visual Documentation for Clients and Authorities
Real-life examples were shared, such as the case of Xalisco Restaurant in Ogden (Utah), where Augmented Reality was used to create interactive walkthroughs. These digital assets not only impressed clients but also served as official documentation for inspections and permits.
Supporting the Entrepreneurial Community
This initiative was made possible thanks to the support of the Suazo Business Center, which tirelessly works to provide tools and opportunities to entrepreneurs from historically underserved communities.
Suazo Business Center offers guidance, training, and resources to help business owners thrive and generate wealth. This workshop is a prime example of how connecting technology with real-world needs can create lasting impact in local communities.
Conclusion:
The construction industry is evolving. Contractors who adopt emerging tools like Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality will be better equipped to meet the demands of a competitive, digital-first market.
At OgdenXR, we remain committed to making innovation accessible and impactful. Because building the future might start with a hard hat—and a VR headset.
